Salut! North is the Cinderella of the already modest household of the Salut! empire. For shaming proof of that, I needed only to check when the last new posting appeared here: the Christmas greetings of 2016.
But the seasonal message remains sincere, even if I cannot promise a stream of new material in the new year while also managing to keep a straight face.
I will say only that the will is there. There is more I would like to write and if time permits, it shall be done. And the site is kept alive because the archive has merit (in the less than modest view of its editor).
For now, just enjoy the classically North-eastern illustration (Pete Sixsmith relaxing after another day as Santa, enhancing the Christmas experience of children in the region). Pete is, like me, an adopted son of Shildon, Co Durham, and a passionate if perpetually disappointed supporter of Sunderland AFC. He is also a great friend since childhood and I have chosen this image - "liked" by hundreds of souls at Facebook - to accompany my seasonal greetings at each of the sites: this one, Salut! Live (folk/folk-rock), Salut! ("on France, current affairs, travel, the media - and more besides") and of course Salut! Sunderland.
There is even a competition over at Salut! Sunderland, the winner of which will be closest to guessing the actual number of Facebook likes at a given time last Thursday.
Never mind all that. Have a great Christmas and a happy, healthy new year. Salut! North insists ...
Will these Christmas greetings do for 2019, too? And Happy New Year for 2020
